Easter is over but He is still Risen. Turn down for what?

Acts 1

  • The celebration of Easter may be over particularly for the retail industry. Easter items are on sale and the shelves are quickly filling up with the next big commercial holiday – Mother’s day.
  • The bunnies, eggs, lilies may have turned down but this morning I say Turn down for what?
  • The Celebration of a Risen Christ is a daily affair not an annual event
  • Our Easter Message “He is Risen or Nah! was a big hit and this is a follow up. We stopped where Jesus where the Risen Christ  showed himself to his disciples and gave them an assignment which has become known as THE GREAT COMMISSION

Matt 9:35 to 38

35 And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.

36 But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd.

37 Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few;

38 Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.

Matthew 28:16-20 King James Version (KJV)

16 Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them.

17 And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted.

18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

The great commission is not a fancy cliche’. It is real work. As believers, we are individually and collectively called to work. Jesus never asked his disciples to pray for MEMBERS. He asked them to pray for LABORERS? Why because after he is risen, they would be turning up and you can’t get much done with members. You get a lot a done with LABORERS/Workers

Now lets fast forward to Acts. Luke is now recounting to

Luke The tradition from the earliest days of the church has been that Luke, a companion of the apostle Paul, wrote both Luke and Acts (Colossians 4:14; 2 Timothy 4:11).

Purpose of Writing: The Book of Acts was written to provide a history of the early church.

Acts 1 King James Version (KJV) – Voice Over

1 The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach,

2 Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen:

3 To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:

4 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.
